As 2021 draws to a close, it's time to reflect on the past year. This year, we have gained many new customers and taken on new assignments for existing customers. Like 2020, 2021 has also been characterised by the pandemic, and we can draw several threads from the pandemic to changes at our customers. In this article, we will look at this year's major focus areas and trends in telecoms.
5G, unlimited data and digital workplaces have characterised the telecoms arena this year. The pandemic has led to more home offices and a varied workplace, and employers have recently focussed on ensuring that employees can work efficiently regardless of location.
Do your employees have enough data, is the internet fast enough and do they have the right coverage? Our job this year has been to ensure that all of our customers' employees have large enough data packages, the possibility of 5G and that additional services such as double data or rollover are in place - all while keeping costs under control.
The aim is to ensure that employees can work efficiently anywhere and at any time, without the employer having to worry about unforeseen costs.
Microsoft Teams has seen a drastic increase in the number of users as a result of working from home, and more people needed a common platform where employees could meet and interact. It's a software that many organisations are using today to give presentations, share files and make calls to colleagues both with and without video. During the pandemic, we've really seen an increased interest in Speech in Teams. If you have Voice in Teams, you can receive calls and make calls to anyone, even those without Teams users. This has made it very popular for keeping in touch with foreign colleagues, customers and business partners. We have written a more detailed article about voice in Teams and the opportunities it offers here.
eSIM was introduced a few years ago, but now that travelling is back and smartwatches are the standard, demand is growing. Most people are aware of the big price differences between Norwegian providers and local providers when it comes to roaming abroad, and eSIM is a simple solution to keep prices down. There are clear signs that eSIM is here to stay.
What you need to be aware of is which device you want to use the eSIM in, and which phone provider you use. This is because not all providers support eSIM for the Apple smartwatch.
All in all, we see many benefits of having eSIM, whether it's for smartwatches or because you're roaming a lot abroad, the benefits are significant. Stay tuned to our blog for a more detailed article on eSIM and the benefits of using it.
There are always several factors that play a key role when we put together a solution for our customers, and we always sit down with the customer and prepare a tender document based on their requirements and needs. We anticipate that the above factors will continue to play a central role in the telecoms market of the future, and we look forward to new challenges in 2022.
